It is life's constant argument. Does computer hardware drive innovation or is it software that pushes the technology envelope forcing manufacturers to devise systems that will enable the software to meet its goals? These arguments have been going on for almost as long as silicon has been used to manufacture circuits.
As a software engineer I have held the belief that programs and applications are the center of the computer universe. But as I have progressed I've realized the value that good hardware has in establishing the environment for which I can develop.
This was not the easiest decision to express, it was like admitting the earth may truly be round despite the arguments I could make that it was indeed flat (I'll leave that discussion to another day). In an effort to create the perfect computing environment I continuously modify and adapt hardware to stretch the technology to its limits.
In this section I will attempt to describe some of the systems I have created or purchased and where they fit within the overall technology map I have created.
Since I was a kid, I have been fascinated with computers and always trying to create the perfect processing machine. Each computer I bought or built would have to outdo the one it was replacing. I have a garage packed with parts and machines from previous builds. I clearly have an issue with hoarding technology which Trina reminds me of continually.
For most of my life I have been a huge fan of Apple Computers which may be understandable since that was the first machine I ever knew or touched. But through the years I have also dabbled about in the PC world building several what I thought were cutting edge Windows boxes. One such machine was an AMD Multi-core Computer System which I had documented on a previous version of this web site. I will leave it here for your amusement.
Besides computer hardware, I am also heavily invested in portable electronics, in particular those from Apple which include the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. I've included discussions on each of these devices as well as an overview of all them in the devices article.
